This may be worth a try for those seeking something a little different than 'store bought':Morrison's Cafeteria as theatre: Memories of perfect shrimp and tartar sauce | Daily Loaf | Creative Loafing Tampa

It's been a while but I loved their shrimp and tartar sauce when in college years ago.

Wow, thanks Burdell. I've never thought of any tartar sauce with cabbage in it, nor have I ever tasted. I'm going to have to try this and see.

Default Tartar Sauce

Yes, tartar sauce is made with capers. Here is a pretty deluxe recipe. I think the parsley is over-doing it.

There are infinite variations of "tartar sauce." The simplest recipe I've seen has mayo, lemon juice, and Old Bay seasoning.

Not a recipe, but I do like the tarter sauce at Captain Dee's restaurant. Wish I had the recipe.

I hadn't thought of using Old Bay DirtGrinder. Am going to give that a try. Since it is a Seafood restaurant we are visiting, perhaps I am off with the cinnamon and it might well be Old Bay.
If you're right, I'll let you know. Having halibut for dinner tomorrow so will make some tartar sauce this way.

Made the tartar sauce this afternoon. The Old Bay did add a depth to it, but I still wanted the cinnamon taste, so I added that too. It came out really good, and I'll make it like this from now on. Thanks DirtGrinder.

I've never tried cinnamon in tartar sauce, but I do cook a lot of dishes using cinnamon (Moroccan, Indian, Oaxacan mole, chili, etc.), so I'm sure I'd like it.

Old Bay is great in shrimp salad too.

It's not tartar sauce without pickles or relish.

There are other dressings and condiment recipes but they aren't tartar sauce.

That's like saying you want a recipe for guacamole without avocados.

Very simple: mayo either homemade or good quality store bought, add drained, patted dry pickle relish, Old Bay seasoning, a splash of Tabasco. Mix, chill and serve.
