Depends on your definition of nerd, I guess. When I was in high school, a nerd was someone who was completely awkward, but no where near book-smart. They usually got bad grades, dressed as though their clothes came from a free-bin, and we always joked that they were going to be the ones who would walk into their place of employment one day with an AK-47 (yes, I know, that IS NOT FUNNY. We were teenagers, give us a break). One of them actually ended up in prison, but for what, I don't know.
The ones who were the stereotypical nerds, were generally accepted. Well, at least they were not unpopular. I went to a preparatory high school where being "dumb" was looked down upon; so perhaps that is why.
But, outside of my high school, I know that being the stereotypical nerd was not the best way to climb the social ladder. I had friends from other high schools that made fun of them.
So, I must ask; when did geeky/nerdy girls become hot? For me, they always were, but I am talking about in general. It seems to be a recent phenomenon.
Anyways, for me it is because we can talk about things that are of actual interest, not just your usual chit-chat. They generally are not concerned about pop culture or following the latest trend (a huge plus for me). I dunno, they walk to the beat of a different drummer, and it is usually a rhythm I can feel.

Reason: orphaned quote
Seriously, I'm asking Santa for one of those. I'm afraid the hollering from my trunk might draw unwanted attention to me chariot.
Ask Joe Pesci for help while your at it!
