If I knew the "most perfect, gorgeous guy", I probably wouldn't be recommending him to another girl . He's either mine, or noone else's muahahah. No, but really...I'd rather not set him up if I had interest in him.
Like anything, there are gray areas in this department, too. I may like somebody and still recommend him because I shouldn't have him for some reason or because he has baggage I definitely don't want to deal with.
A few years back a friend (who was in a relationship) set me up with a friend of hers who'd asked about me. He and I started dating, and after a couple of months the mutual friend broke up with her boyfriend because she realized that she wanted the guy she set me up with, and they hooked up while I was out of town one weekend. It was a mess, there were hurt feelings, but they got married, so I guess it was all for the best.

That's bull. You getting screwed over is not for the best. I'd hope someone seduces him so she can know how it feels. Although stealing someone from a friend is different. She's an idiot for not just breaking up sooner and dating him herself. Her marriage is founded on the pain and humiliation of others and it should not last.
I have never had a guy try to fix me up, but I have fixed up some guys...so, women. We tend to want people to be happy and in a relationship; I don't think guys do that as much. They probably feel like it is not their business, so why get in it?
Who do you think is more likely to recommend a dating prospect? A women to a guy friend about another girl she knows? Or would a guy recommend to a girl they know about a potential guy for them?
Neither.
