I participate in a weekly Spanish conversational group. I decided it would be a great way to get to know everyone better to have a party at my house. So I sent an email to the organizer not really thinking ahead. Of course when I sent it I was thinking only the people at the group would be attending. Well, then I remembered they're all married and would be bringing their spouses. So this means I'll be the ONLY single person there out of 30 people or more. I feel like such a loser. There is one other single woman but don't know if she'd come or not. And I don't know anyone who is single to invite. It's tough being solo in a couple's world.
I suppose I could make up some excuse and change my mind, but it would force me to get this house in tip top shape if I were to have a party. I've never had a party here and I do have a pool too so people could always go swimming (and track water in all over my floors). Would you feel like having a party if you were me? And no, I won't be asking anyone to bring their single men friends. As an introvert, I hate parties and just wasn't thinking ahead to spouses. Would it be tacky to say leave your spouse at home? BTW, I don't have a small place so I can't use that excuse.

I didn't attend my 20th year high school reunion because I figured 80% at least of my graduating class were married. I asked a co worker what % of the class would be single and she estimated about 10%. Does that sound right? It was a class of 500
If you don't like having parties then why would you even offer to have one in the first place???
Anyway, just have the party....you'll be so busy going all over the place getting things for people that you will probably appreciate not having someone all over you while you are trying to entertain your guests.
I've been to many parties that were hosted by single people and had an awesome time!

Half would be single because of divorce or separation.
I agree 100% with Chowhound. Just throw the party, be a good host and have yourself a blast. Think of it like this, if you throw the party and everyone seems to really enjoy it, that will put your name out there more and attract more people and possibly single men who might have an interest in you since your name is being thrown around the place and it kind of gives you a good/high status, which should definitely attract the men. Everyone will talk about Mistygrl being such a fun good host that people will start to want to be around you more.
Just go for it and have fun. You have nothing to lose!
I've never been single but I go to parties and events all the time with out my husband. Some of my friends think my husband is imaginary. He works when everyone else is off work (I do, too, when I work) so I'm used to going places with out him. I don't even think about it. Just have the party and have a good time!
Ok, thanks everyone. I'll just have the party. There really is no tactful way to just limit it to the group only, although that would be my preference. If nothing else, my house will be super clean!
