why do people feel the need to protect me from stuff? (women, older)

Some guys do this to me and its annoying. Do they like innocent girls or something???? I have 1 guy in particular that's my age will tell me be good, behave yourself etc. when he gets himself in trouble sometimes. I found out something about a guy I liked from a mutual friend. I know he didn't bother to tell me because it would upset me.
Because we as men hate it when women get in trouble. Much of the time, we get teary, ugly-sounding, crying-on-the-phone phone calls from female friends. More so than male friends (in my experience.)
When we get calls like that, it means that (if we are good friends, anyway) we have to pour out our beers, actually put on pants and shoes and a shirt, and come down and rescue you from whatever mess you got yourself in (because some girls frequently get way in over their heads.)
I don't think women need protection from knowing about negative events or social trends, but everyone - men too! - may benefit from a little protection now and then. And yes, I find it very endearing to meet a sweet, somewhat innocent woman, especially if I can assist in her education. The other night, I met several women - older even than me! - who did not know what FWB, BDSM, or one night stand were. I mean, really, how can you not have heard of these?! And these were women with careers, who hadn't been "sheltered" at home.
As for your friend, OP, he probably just didn't want you to know in case you thought badly of him. That's just human nature.
Katie, given all the problems you encounter and the messes you get into on a regular basis (as documented in your many threads) you should feel grateful that there are some people in your life who care about you enough to try and lessen the load you bring on yourself and try and get you to see things as they are.
