Do they make excuses for this or that not being picked up or cleaned. I grew up in a spotless home and expect mine to be kept that way because I do. Nothing sucks worse than cleaning for an hour before you can start cooking dinner.
Dating and getting to see how they live is kind of an eye opener and how they act in your home, what they say and do is many times two different things.
I am not a germaphobe, but my house stays clean..it cost me one marriage as a result of someone that has no problem being lazy "I worked 80 hours a week and did 98% of the cleaning, she didnt even have a job".
Niether my husband nor I are very neat people. We aren't dirty people but we are messy people. I don't think we'll ever be free of clutter. We would drive Chowhound crazy!!!
Maybe I read more into being a slob but if they are a slob in the house, their car is trashy and neglect is another bad attribute in other forms like their job and your needs. Pride shows in ownership and other aspects of life, so does the lack of..........

I think it all depends on the person. I'm messy - but I'm very organized in my job and I remember my schedule and my husband's schedule in my head. I write things down - but I usually don't need to look at them because I remember them. Usually, people that only know me professionally or who have never been to my house think I'm probably a neat freak. But I'm not!
