I'm someone that used to have no preference in cooking ability before I went vegan and still don't really have one [except I'm more picky with what I eat], so it doesn't matter too much if my SO can't cook all that well, as long as they know how to use the basics: stove and oven. I'd eat anything as long as it's edible.

As far as myself, I love to cook my own stuff too, with a heavy emphasizes on baking stuff. I know that sounds odd coming from a guy, but hey, it is what it is, and I bet some chick/dude out there digs it. That being said, what about y'all? How is important that your SO knows how to cook well?

I like when he cooks and I do some myself. It's fun to learn new ways to cook and what taste good together.

Meh, DH and I met in college. Cooking meant being able to boil pasta.

I can cook if I choose to (so can he), but neither of us really enjoys eating, so we have little motivation to invest the time in intricate meals. I'm still pretty happy with pasta

Cool! You can cook pasta? Could you teach my wife?

It's never been important to me, and I like to eat!

What do you mean you don't enjoy eating? It's kind of a basic human thing to like to eat - actually, not even just human but a basic living organism thing.

The ability and desire to cook. Tells me something about the other persons "care of self."

Plus, it adds a common interest. Something that can be done together, like my best flow is individually making a dish from start to finish. But putting the individually made elements together for the shared meal.

Ability and desire to cook when there's time is a big plus. I love to experiment with food and it tastes pretty good, I'd love to sample someone else's cooking sometime.
