Yup, through the entire lower level. Most homes in my area have wood in the kitchen...it's uncommon to see tile.
Yeah, I guess it depends on the location. I've only lived here and shortly in CA and people have only tile. Tile is cold in the winter, though. Maybe that's the reason it's not popular in colder states.
Wow, I've never had them or even heard that people may have them, but it sounds like major PITA...
We actually walked out of a few homes that boasted tile in the kitchen. Wood is very easy to take care of, I just vacuum it and when it needs to be washed I use orange glo and a microfiber mop.
I cannot STAND cleaning grout. We put tile in the kids bath but when we do our bathroom I'm thinking I may do bamboo floors in there.
We have all wood on our lower level...can you use it on wood?
Still...it's not so much pushing the mop but moving all the furniture and then moving it back, fighting with the dog (he LOVES to lick cleaners for some reason) and it's just the entire lower level of the house, so it's a chore.
But...feel free to come over and do them for me and I'll have a slice of cheesecake waiting for you.

We bought the Shark steam mop and one of attachments is for wood floors, looks kind of like a dust mop. We don't have wood floors though.
For that much labor I would expect you be the dish the cheescake is served upon. (Damn, I need to write that one down)
It's very common in FL to have tile in the lower levels too. I think the hotter climates tend to prefer it.
Usually the only place we have carpet is in the bedrooms!
