Yes, I am picky. I'm picky because I'm looking for a wife, not just a fling. So why shouldn't I be picky?
Why are you looking for a wife in 2011? Did you not get the memo? You missed the boat about 50 years.
My advice:
1. Find a job
2. Get a passport
3. Go travel around the world enjoying your life and meeting foreign women.
BTW, Flings are good because I have found that women are attracted to men who seem to have other women fighting over them, and also it makes you come off less desperate to the new women you meet.

As for your other suggestion, I have considered backpacking somewhere (Australia or Europe) for 6 months, but that would drain my savings even more and I'd still be coming back to a bad economy and no prospects. So I'd be delaying the inevitable. I feel like there are no options.
Maybe its just me but I find it damn near impossible to meet women as of late

Because you're living in America which has a dating market that is collectively controlled by WOMEN.
This is beyond simple male to female ratios, because it means that 2-3 women will double up and share a high status male all while leaving you out in the cold.

"I feel like there are no options." I hear this from quite a few women too. The "Picky" statement was to do with looks only. The job thing is another story.

Try looking for a job overseas such as teaching English.
As far as backpacking find somewhere cheaper such as Thailand. There is a famous backpackers street in Bangkok called Khoa San Road.
Yeah, the job thing is another story, and an absolute disaster. I have a college degree and additional education which is the equivalent of a PHD, and yet I can't get a job. I feel like a loser, so I don't try to date. Why meet a woman, even one online, only to find out she doesn't want to see me again because I'm unemployed (even though most women wouldn't give that as the reason)? I don't want to find myself interested in someone and face more rejection. I am picky on looks too, but thats subjective. Many men prefer blondes, and I strongly prefer brunettes, for example. But like I said, it doesn't matter at this point.
In Las Vegas, men outnumber women. To make matters even worse, a LOT of women out here are escorts, partiers, or just general drug addicts or women who just "dont have time for a relationship". The rest are frigid mormon women who "dont have sex"
I found myself a good girl and I lost her, she has easily and readily replaced me and has since forgotten all about me or even that I exist and now she is gone from me forever, she just uses me when its convenient for her
My life is over...there are no more available women not in Las Vegas, not anywhere
