Interesting subject. Of course I've married men I wasn't "in love" with, & frankly I'm not sure I even believe in the concept of being "in love". A sensible woman marries (at least I have) for security and stability - period. And I've gotten it, I respect my husband and love him as a human being, rather than a lover. Anything else is a pipe dream. It's unrealistic, and yet the media promotes it. Growing up watching crap on TV or reading books about romantic love leads to bitter disappointment. Up until a century or so ago, being "in love" with one's spouse was a happy fringe benefit of marriage, certainly not the reason for it, and I sincerely hope society comes to it's senses and returns to this practical view.
I married someone in the military I didn't know that well, let alone love because I wanted to settle down and have kids. We did have two boys that are the light of my life as well as his but the marriage did not work well and I divorced him. We were just not compatible; I have since remarried to someone I adore and I can tell you it's so much different. If you marry someone you don't really love you will be depriving yourself in ways you can't imagine. Just my opinion.
I cannot imagine deciding to marry someone I did not love. The person your marrying your going to be living with daily with all kinds of financial ties and obligations. When problems arise, and you know you have no love for the person, it will get awfully difficult. It is difficult enough to live with people you do love!
If people just want to be settled and have a companion in their home, co-habitation sounds better
Off topic, but I love when I hear guys say this. Yes, I know a woman could lie about being on birth control or whatever, but a guy also knows there are risks involved in certain activities, even when precautions are taken.
All true, but there's something called "trust" that people who have the opinion above don't seem to take into account.
