Most men who smile at me on the street, I could do without. I also don't generally smile back because I just have no reason to.

When I'm in a bad mood, a smile can make my day. Then I'm in a better mood and start smiling at others, and they smile back. Yay, a lovely cycle of smiliness! -> -> ->

(sorry too much caffeine this morning)

As a proud Canadian (we Canadians are known for our good manners and politeness), I believe it is the norm to smile at strangers when your eyes accidentally meet. I definitely wouldn't be creeped out, I'd reciprocate if a cute guy like yourself smiles at me.

Yesterday, I smiled at this old man in Target (and by old, I mean he was probably in his mid to late 80's) - and he seemed extremely confused by my smiling at him. Actually, I was smiling before I looked at him, I just happened to make eye contact with him during my smile. It was pretty funny.

I smile and usually say howdy to everyone. It's being kind, I'm not asking you to have my children.

I think maybe some people don't understand that there is most definitely a thing as a creepy smile... not to be confused with a friendly smile, which is always welcome. For instance, when I was about 24, this guy was giving me a creepy smile. Then he came up to me and asked me if I had just gotten out of school - meaning the highschool that was just around the corner. He was clearly in his mid to late 30's and was hitting on me because he thought I was in HIGHSCHOOL! That was a creepy smile. I have a feeling that most men on this forum do not give a creepy smile. Friendly smiles - good. You look like a teenager and I'm almost 40 smile - not good.

Nothing wrong at all there elina. And I think yours is the healthier attitude. Its kinda sad when being friendly to women is now thought of as "creepy" or rude. smh...

Some women seem to forget that there will certainly come a time, if they live long enough, when the beauty will fade and it will be a pleasant, welcome surprise when any man acknowleges you. So how about getting in practice appreciating friendly kindness right now?
