I was called a man since I was 7, when I started mowing people's yards for money and was educated on how to manage my own money.
Don't get me wrong, there's still a kid in me. Sometimes I could be flipping channels and I come across a show that takes me back to being 5 again and I'll watch it.
But then I make decisions that effect my friends and the people around me as well as myself. That's a big part of being an adult. The rest is paying your bills on time lol.
I moved away for college, I have a full beard currently, and I've put on an athletic build in the past year, so people have been calling me a man almost exclusively. At 19 it does seem very strange. I'd say I think of myself as a guy, rather.
OP, it's probably because you're not married nor do you have any kids, so even though you may have a job, it's like things are no different from the way they were back in high school.
A man means sacrifice. It means to climb the moutain. You only become a man after accomplishing a great want, that others shun you for. Providing, sex, and being good has nothing to do with a man. A man means sacrifice.
