So a couple months back I started using POF. I posted here like a month ago complaining about how I haven't been getting much responses from the girls I've been messaging. I'm 24/male and was going after 18-25 female. I was sending maybe 2-3 messages per day to girls I'd like to go out with. Pretty standard procedure. Wasn't getting much responses and the responses I did get usually ended after the 3rd or 4th message.
When I posted here a month ago people told me to stop wasting my time because there is like 50x dudes for every female on the site. I ignored this advice and kept on. Traditional dating simply sucks for me, since I am short (5'3) and pretty shy. In a bar/club scene I completely close up to talking to people. Same story for other venues.
Well, one day I got an e-mail from POF saying that a girl had selected, "yes" to the meet me feature. I didn't think much of this since normally the girls who use this feature are way older than me or just not my type. This girl, on the other hand, looked pretty interesting. Read her profile, everything looked good and she was online. So I said, what the hell, I'll message this girl. All I said was, "hello" thinking she wouldn't respond back (like most girls would do on these sites). Luckily this girl responded and we had a good 2-3 hour convo. We swapped facebooks and phone numbers through the site. Did 2-3 days of texting back and forth and we set up a date.
The date was excellent and we are super compatible. She meets all the things I was looking for. She really likes me and I really like her, what more could you ask for? That's the stuff of dreams.
So yeah, that's my story of online dating as a guy. It works, you just gotta stay consistent, log on everyday, be proactive and message lots of people. Also you have to be realistic. Use the, "my city" feature and just message the girls in the top 10 pages. Its sorted by when they were last online. Don't waste your time messaging people who have a status of, "logged on last week."
OP=I have a little secret for you. It works for us fiftysomethings, too. The woman with whom I've shared my life for over three years and counting found me on POF!
People say those free sites like POF are full of fakes, sleazes, prostitutes looking for business, etc., and that the quality people are on the paid membership sites. It's great to hear something to the contrary. Thanks for an uplifting post, OP!
