The OP is confusing mental illness for mental retardation. Getting it on with someone with an IQ below 60 is wrong but how is it wrong to do someone with a mental illness like arachnophobia or depression? If someone is intelligent enough to make rational adult decisions, its not wrong to date them.
I think both men and women can take advantage of those who might be in a vulnerable state in many ways, but I think that at times men do exploit emotionally unstable women for sex. Might women also exploit men for sex in the same way...I suppose it could happen.
Mental illness can mean all sorts of things. I think in this discussion it means someone who you know might act unpredictably, or might not be able to fully understand what you are proposing because of their emotional state. In this thread some have used the words emotionally vulnerable which could really mean all sorts of things. There are people who might fee emotionally vulnerable in regards to a situation and they pull themselves out of it, and we'd never know about it. There are also people with no documented mental illness who in a time of feeling emotionally vulnerable might resort to any sort of action.
I know someone close to me that has had interactions with the police and short stays in a psychiatric unit due to what I suppose would be almost a form of a psychotic break caused by alcohol related issues. People continue to approach her, despite knowing her history.
