Great! All you do need is each other! I read a childfree book that said the author couldn't be happier she's safe and sound every night and never has to live in areas with good schools just for the kids.
well, for general reference, we do have a dog that we both adore -- and it probably takes care of my "fatherly instincts" to some extent.
but I still find the dog incredibly annoying 1/2 the time. may be I am just very egoistic and value my own personal time / freedom too much.
the great irony is that my wife and I are both very well educated, have great and stable jobs, and we are "qualified" to be good parents more than overwhelming majority of this f-n society.
the moral dilemma for me is should I breed to pass my genes to enhance this hopeless DNA pool and raise better citizens for my country, or should I just tell the ultimate F U to the society by not breeding at all and deprive them from future taxpayers and potential meat fodder.
PS: as you can probably sense from my post, I am a cynical bastard as well and have no problems admitting it .
I have 4 kids, a dog and 2 cats. We love the dog, but having him can be a pain in the arse sometimes so I know where you are coming from with that.
Kids were MUCH easier for us because we really wanted to have children, and we really wanted to have 4 of them. I can't imagine if I just said "ho hum, I think I'll have a kid because everyone expects me to"...I'd probably wind up thinking they were a pain in the ass too.
You might be "qualified" on paper but you really need to WANT the child in order for those qualifications to be reflected in your parenting. It takes more than a good education and a paycheck to raise a child, you need the desire too.
It's a huge commitment and you can't just turn them over to a shelter if you change your mind. You can't half-ass do it just because it's what is expected of you. Please think long and hard about this one!

Security!! Will you remove the parent person from here?!!
I have two basset hounds, those are children enough for me. I've never had the slightest interest in having children. EVER. Neither has my husband. We spend every weekend June-October in Yosemite, hiking and enoying life. It's a 675 mile RT every Fri-Sunday and we don't care. As long as we aren't burdened with children.
And nothing bores me as much as people prattling on about their children. My mother died last month and I never once mentioned this fact to anyone I work with. Why? Because I guarantee you, the moment I would have said, "I've been so depressed... my mother passed away last week," I would have heard, "Oh, too bad (three second pause). Hey! Did I tell you my daughter is on the third grade soccer team and she made a goal last night!???"
OF the breader club? Well, almost. My mother hatched 6 of us.
Aww heck..she can be the Pres!
