This hadn't happened to me in a LONG time, like maybe 3 years, but I went on a date with a woman last week who was probably about 40 lbs heavier in person than the photos she posted. She wasn't super skinny in her photos or anything but she looked to be in average shape. The phone conversations weren't all that exciting but I had been flaking out on dates lately and a friend convinced me to give it a shot so I did. I didn't even recognize her when she came up to me at the restaurant bar. I was a gentleman about it. I still bought her a couple drinks and talked with her for about an hour but it was awkward saying goodbye because I could tell she wanted to go out again. I felt even worse because I totally could've done something else with that time and my job has been overwhelming lately and I value my few free hours a week much more these days.
Does this still happen to people? I even went on eHarmony and I thought people might be a little more authentic through this site.
I think the worse thing I had happen was a guy told me he was 6'4 and turned out to be around 5'10. He then lectured me about lying about MY height because I was a few inches taller than him so I MUST have been 6'6 or so.
I've only met a handful of people from online dating, and all of them have been fairly authentic with their pictures and descriptions.

Did he play college ball? I don't know how someones stat sheet can say that they are 6'2" when they are really 5'10".
On the photo side about half of the women Ive met online were heavier then their pics. I'm more of a sucker for a pretty face so it was never that big of a deal.

Nope. My brother plays college ball and they're pretty good about using the correct stats. Girls volleyball on the other hand... not so much. My cousin is 6'1 and plays for a team in southern california and we took a picture together and I'm at least 2" taller than she is and I KNOW I'm only 6'1.
yeah, one girl, her pic was super close, and her hair was straight, so she looked totally different. I think from the outset of the date she could tell I was upset becasue I did NOT like the way she looked (a rarity for me). She was big, but not in any positive way, when I'm a guy who likes thick girls. She had that big/long chin/neck that made her look like a bass.
My pics are always accurate and recent. Some weeks maybe I'll be a bit heavier, some lighter. And frankly over time I look better as I work out and get closer to my goals, So if anything, my pictures will be inaccurate in the good way. :-) there were a few times here and there I looked better than my pics
A guy looked NOTHING like his picture but I stayed as we were eating at Ruth's Chris..I know, shallow of me but it was tasty!
Nice! You got good taste. Shallow? I dunno... I just know I couldn't pass up Ruth's Chris.
I mean, on one hand it was him who decided to use false pics.
I've learned that a guy who says he's 5'10" on his online profile is lucky if he's 5'8"! lol
I've noticed that men who are over 6'5 don't lie (they don't have to, I suppose), but men who are just on the cusp of being 6' nearly ALWAYS lie about their height. Basically, I subtract 2" if they say they're 6'2 or shorter.
