I met this firefighter guy a few months back. We exchanged phone numbers. He texted me and asked me to hang out. I agreed. On the day of our date, he sent me a text saying he couldn't make it because he doesn't feel good. I texted him back saying, it's ok I hope you feel better. Then, I stopped talking to him. He still texts me but I don't reply to him. He keeps asking me to give him another chance. Just like today, he sent me another text, "Pretty please, I would be good to you. Lets go out on a date".
Another guy did the same thing. On the day of our date, He texted me saying his motorcycle broke down on the freeway and he couldn't make it. I stopped talking to him. He texts but I don't reply. He even found my Facebook and sent me a message there asking me to go out with him.
I don't like flakey people. I don't want to be involve with one. But sometimes I think maybe they deserve another chance.
**** happens. One day it will happen to you, and someone else won't give you a break. It's your choice, of course, and maybe they did "flake" on you - and maybe they didn't.

I usually go with a three-strikes rule. If it's the first time it happens...well, things come up. Stuff happens, and plans occasionally get pre-empted. Once is OK. Twice...it does happen, but there had better be a REALLY good explanation....something involving a high-speed chase and/or grievous bodily injury. Three times--persona non grata. I lose your number and e-mail. Your calls, e-mails and texts go unanswered.
I'm too old and tired for games or the people who play them.
I cancelled a first date with a woman once, who was gracious enough to offer to reschedule. I wasn't flaking either, as I had a 102 temperature at the time, and I didn't think she wanted me puking on her all night and infecting her with whatever flu I had.
Your certainly not obligated to give people additional chances... but they may not always just blowing you off either.
I go with my gut instinct but in general, if someone cancels on me but wants to reschedule, I take that as a sign they really did want to see me and I reschedule. If they cancel but don't offer to reschedule, I assume they aren't really interested and move on.
If your definition of "flakey" includes someone getting sick or having mechanical problems, they're better off without you.
"Flakey" is when people cancel for no reason or have a string of flimsy excuses. Those people are generally not wanting to see you, which means they're not going to keep trying to reschedule with you as these two are. Sickness and auto trouble are things that can and do happen to everyone. It's not a personal insult against you when it happens to someone on the day they're supposed to see you.. In fact, it has nothing to do with you at all.
stay away from flakes. once unreliable forever unreliable.
anytime i flake its because a better option is lined up
