Simply Question, do you agree or disagree with this common phrase?

As I've grown older I've learned to appreciate the pain that comes with losing love. There is so much to learn from it.

Easy for whatever idiot wrote that to say. They probably never had their heart broken.

Disagree. Analogous to potato chips. It's easier to eat none than only one.

I get the context.

But I would not trade the experience of my first GF for anything. I'm glad we fumbled through both of us having sex together for the first time and the many good times we had at her college.

I'm seeing someone new now and I would be devastated if something should happen. However I could never see me regretting this.

My ex - now that's another story...

Despite the pain (when a relationship ends), I'd rather have something to lose than have nothing (at all ever).
There's still hope when you've lost something or someone that you may get it (or him/her)-or another-person/thing in future.
One has hope having never loved at all/had love, but one also has the additional burden of wondering what all the fuss is about with this experience.
On the other hand, some folks would prefer not to know what they're missing out on (or perhaps some people truly don't wish to experience love, it's not for me to say).

It's also about temptations and whether we'd like to be exposed to them, and I'd answer differently depending on the particulars.

For instance (metaphorical example):
if there were a candy I liked a lot, but I'd only be able to buy it once (for whatever reason),
would I want to eat that candy, knowing I'd never be able to do so again ? I'd have it once, then lose it forever.
I'm not sure whether I would refrain from sampling that great candy,
because I'd want to have the peak experience of how it tasted.
Yet I'd be reluctant to taste it, because knowing I'd lose that forever after would put me off it,
make me not want to feel the anguish of missing that flavor.

So, yes, losing love can make one want to "swear off" love with anyone ever again-and wish to have never loved at all in one's past.
But it doesn't always stay that way, and often one's desire towards a new person can eventually outweigh the hurt carried from a past loss.
