Nothing needs to be justified.... You like who you like. Certain things attract you to a person. This is similar to thinking, "I'm a college grad so expect to only date college grads." It is neither right or wrong IMO - just personal choice/expectation that you use to filter potential mates.

Personally, I have a hard time manufacturing attraction for someone just because they are comparable to me in the fitness, or looks, or education, or social class department. And I can't ever be in a LTR where I have to manufacture attraction for someone. However, like people tend to flock together, so there is more opportunity to meet/be attracted to someone with similar interests/backgrounds.

I hate working out and love to eat. But I have high energy/metabolism and have always looked fit/slim without having to work at it. I have always attracted the athletic types (including my SO), who is always trying to get me to work out with him, which I'll half-heartedly do but it's really not a priority for me. So does the gym rat just want someone who looks like they work out or someone who can keep up with him in a triathlon?

Yeah, I cheat on vacation or when out of town on three day weekends, plenty. And drink on weekends. I do take a day off a week from exercise.

I used to be 35# heavier than I am, and it was worse than that as I wasn't lifting then, I never want to go back there. I felt gross and fat, even though I was in Wisconsin and it really was the norm there. Dating at that period wasn't great, not only because I was soft, but because I had no confidence and didn't feel good about myself.

Since leaving I quit all soda, fast food, sweets (other than very rarely), and made exercise a part of my life, and got in the best shape I've ever been. Doing a half marathon (my first) next month. I really don't want to go back to being soft and I don't want to be with someone that doesn't care about how they look physically. Pushing each other to be more physical is ideal. My vacation preference is to be physical as well and I'd like to do that with my SO: hike a rainforest jungle, climb mountains, canoe a river system... anything but sit on a beach. I'm 42 now. I don't have the metabolism I did at 20, and I didn't inherit great genes in this regard, so I have to work out.

Yes, I'm close in age to you and this is the type of vacation I enjoy - outdoor adventure - mountain-climbing, canoeing, skiing, kayaking, biking, etc. I can't stand sitting on a beach, or even spending much time in a gym - that is extremely boring to me. But I love outdoor adventure and that requires some physical fitness, so my partner and I push each other to stay physically fit so we can enjoy these things together.

Cougars work the hardest in the gym. The way they work out is scary, such determination

It's a spectacle in Equinox.

Ha, went to one of those while making good money at a past job. With the career change its out of my price range, but yes, damn, professional in shape women were plentiful and amazing.

I worked at one of the original Equinoxes for years when I first moved to the city. Some of the snobbiest people in NYC...

Oh, no doubt about that. It was a "perk" of the job (it being discounted, but still pricey compared to what I pay now).

Bwahahahah! You got that right! Don't get me wrong - some of the members were super nice but on the whole, not so much. Although, if I had been a gold digger, I would have cleaned up! Hee hee!
