Are you single? Have you come to hate Christmas? Do you especially hate pictures of children and their parents baking cookies? You're not alone!
Every store I've been wandering into lately has featured some sort of person or advertisement that makes you feel like a loser for being alone: "Who's buying you gifts this year? Make sure he gets the right thing!" Right, Diamond Store, sod you too.
Today a greeter actually told me, "Welcome to (storename)! Have you found the perfect gifts for your significant other?" I just glowered at her even though I felt guilty for doing so.
Good timing, Coldwine because as of this moment the Christmas season has officially begun. Us single folks can now look forward to one month of hell. It's a hard time of year for a lot of people. There's a reason people drink too much, eat too much, and spend too much over the Holidays. Thanksgiving is a perfect example of adults falling into infantile regression. They have to be with their families, so what do they do? They eat until their eyes bleed and then they sit comatose in front of the television watching football and making gastronomic noises and screaming at the television.

Yes, dear heart! Been there, done that, shed many a tear over the years. The commercialism gets worse (and earlier and more intense!) every year. The guilt trips are right there upfront. Despite the fact that Jesus's birthdate was nowhere near December 25th, tradition continues.
Pay no attention to the commercial hype. I know it's hard to do but I look at it rather tongue in cheek but also practically. We've segued from the "January Sales" to the "After Thanksgiving sales - be here at 4AM!"
I could ramble on, but it's just another holiday with all the accompanying pre-buildup- buy-hype - and it's all over in just one day!
If you have people for whom you care and with whom you'd like to spend the holiday season then do it. Accept their hospitality.
In answer to your question, I never "hated" Christmas. I had, and still have, some rather deep issues where that's concerned but there are some things you simply cannot change. But you can deal with them. Cheers!
I love the holiday season, but the commercialism is out of control. Black Friday is ridiculous, I mean 4 AM? To go shopping? C'mon, that is absolutely unbelieveable.
I've got my alarm clock set. the mall opens at 8 a.m.
it's gonna be like lettin' the horses out of the gates..
Now do you see why I have Doc Martins? I may be trying on pretty shoes that cost an even prettier penny, but I'm going to need to kick some people out of my way.
I'm not sleeping tonight. I have a bottle of vodka in one hand and a rifle in the other, and tomorrow there will be war.

I've spent the last 16 years single for the holidays. Never bothered me. Of course I've worked for every one of those Christmas'. But I put up a nice tree every year, and put a few gifts under it for others before I leave for 2 weeks of work. It's gotten where Christmas is just another day for me. But I don't let that...or commercials get me down.
