There's many reasons why single people are single in their 40's. Some were shy or awkward or obsessed with a career. Others were picky and others made poor choices.
Started seeing my husband in my 40's but I wasn't looking for anyone we just kind of became we.
I've never had to be in a relationship and was single for almost 10 years when I married my husband.
I sort of dated but nothing specific or earth shattering before I met him, just went out and had some fun.
I think it more likely means the woman was too picky, as opposed to the woman wasn't good enough. Sometimes it means that the woman was having a lot of fun and wasn't yet interested in settling down with one man.

I started dating at 38. I ACTUALLY BECAME A SERIAL DATER. I really just have to lower my standards though. I am married now so it can really happen if you are patient.

Very true...aren't we reallly just looking for someone whose baggage is a matched set with ours? That is why my BF and I have now. We both have our quirks, but they are quirks that we understand, so it works okay.
