You make a good point but I do have to say that people should be careful about posting any picture of children online. I'm always surprised when people do this. Make sure there is no way to identify where that child lives, goes to school, etc. There are a lot of really creepy people out there.
True, but worrying about Chester the Molester types wasn't really concern when holding a swaddled infant who lived 500+ miles away safely under the watchful eye of parents, with no identifying information about him posted. If some creep from KC wanted to seek out a random newborn in Chicago due to my online dating ad with zero personally identifying information, hey, good luck with that.
I did ask my brother if it was okay with him for me to post pics of me holding his baby online, though. That's only ethical.
I can only figure that these are men focusing on dating teenagers or college co-eds, because that's where I see the pursed-lip-selfie thing. I don't really ever see photos of women my age online making a duckface.
Yeah, I swear to God I've only seen 13, 14, and 15 year olds doing the duck thing. I can't imagine a woman in her 20s doing "the duck," and much less older than that.
Given that I'm a straight female, I'm not really sweating turning off women like you. And any man who gets turned off by kids, I don't want to date. I already wasted five years in a relationship with a guy like that (he misrepresented himself, didn't come clean about his distaste for kids until years in).
Posting a pic with children was a conscious decision, as it helped reinforce that although I am not a parent yet, I am not one of the countless anti-children women my age. I'm at the age where if you don't have children, people start to assume it's because you don't want any, not because it simply hasn't happened yet, and that's not an accurate assumption in my case. I would never have knowingly chosen to date a child-free type. Again, effective filtering tool. It worked, as I am now married to a man who is, like me, pro-children. Guess having "poor taste" worked out fine.
The photos you post on dating profiles are as telling as the words you post, in terms of what your interests are, what sorts of things are important to you (pets, family, hobbies), etc. Why waste that with generic duckface iPhone selfies that do a good job of showing how much you spend on cosmetics and not much else?

However, I stand by my statement about kids in pictures. Crop them out, blur their faces, or just don't have kids in your pics. When guys do it I think two things: 1) Why are you trying so hard to show that you're a "good, kid friendly guy" and 2) do the parent(s) of that kid know you have their pictures posted on a public website?
I put up a profile on a dating site (for the very first time). After looking at the guys' profiles, I just wanted to scoop my lungs out with a spoon.
I will be the first to admit that I am in no way perfect, but c'mon guys. At least put forth a LITTLE effort. You want a relationship, but if you aren't even going to make SOME attempt at a profile, then it is obvious that you aren't going to put forth any effort in a relationship.

Understandable. I've seen guy profiles pointed out elsewhere on other sites. As much as I can on women on POF for being aspies who live in a back room of their parents house, there are guys who take that cake, eat a bit and run a long ways with it.

Yeah, ladies using OLD have this idea somehow that guys like things that they also like. If you're trying to get a guy to bite, the last thing he wants to read is:
"I would like to meet someone who is into all the fun things that everyone is supposed to say on these things. I like puppies kittens and walks on the beach... I exercise regularly I have 2 dogs, and they are awesome! I am looking for a guy who can help me carry mulch (those bags weigh 50lbs) help me do yard work, and lift heavy things. Someone who likes to go out on dates, and or be happy to just sit at home with the dogs!"
Look, I'm glad this gal exercises, but if I'm relegated to being a day laborer, at least she could be younger than 38 and not be a bar fly who literally graduated from college with a basketweaving degree.
The concept of selling themselves to a guy is just completely lost on them. When you buy a car, do you buy it when the salesperson has told you what you came to hear or after he throws the keys at you and walks away? The next woman's profile I see that says, "I want the house, big yard, 2.1 kids and a white picket fence lifestyle", I would just about marry on the spot. Thankfully, in a sense, most all these women want to be "bros" who demonstrate they can blow money like it's going out of style by planning a vacation every month or two and only compete with guys, so I am confident that I won't have to back my claim up.
