Sounds like an absurd question but I've struggled with this myself. No relationship is perfect but loneliness is one of the worst feelings. Even if you aren't with the right person isn't it better to at least have that companionship and someone to spend life with? You may even like the person just not be in love with them. I think obviously if your in an abusive relationship it would be better to be single. I think the situation is not so cut and dry. I just hear people say a lot it's better to be single and alone then in a marriage and unhappy...I think they are both hard. I just don't know which was is worse..Any thoughts?

I seriously doubt those are the only two options.

Single and alone.

But remember the feeling of love ebbs and flows. It's up to you to get that spark back.

I prefer single and alone based on things I've personally experienced and seen in other people's bad relationships.

I never put being in a relationship high on a priority list when it came to living my life so I was never disappointed.
If I was in a relationship great, if I wasn't in a relationship great; I continued to live my life and move forward.

Your comparisons are flawed. You should have just written it "would you prefer to be single or in a relationship and not happy". Of course the obvious choice for most would be the first. I've been single for a good chunk of my life, but I have never once felt alone.

The premise of your question is exactly why so many people remain in unsatisfying and even abusive relationships. It makes me sad. My ex-stepmother and stepsister thought this way. They are on their third and second marriages, respectively--actually, my ex-stepsister's second marriage is on the outs.

If you need to be with another person to validate your existence, then that's a very sad existence indeed.

Single and happy-like I am now lol. It's easy to get in a relationship with anyone, just for the sake of being in a relationship but it can easily make you miserable if you aren't compatible and desire different things. I don't mind being single so it isn't a big deal to me if i remain so(which tbh I don't see really happening for me).
