*You* think you are focusing 100%, and that is a good attitude to have during *work time*.

*I* think you are an extreme bad planner, or a very slow worker.
Or ... , you work for a lousy company !

Jobs are created because there is a *need* for a certain product.
During that process of getting that job, a certain time to do the job is discussed and then agreed upon.

Who ever was responsible did a lousy job and I hope it is not you !!

When you plan a job, you should know that there are only so many hours a day, and during those hours, people are only effective for a certain time. Therefore, the actually amount that can be done during those effective hours are limited.

We used to plan only for 6 hours of actual work a day (regular day is 8 hours). I made that a requirement !
If a normal average person can not do his job for that many hours (while being focused on the job 100%), he is not worth working in my groupe.
If the time allocated to deliver was tight, we did not make the permanent personnel work overtime but we then hired *consultants*, so the job can be finished with a six hour daily schedule, AND delivered on time.

When I asked our Engineering groupe how long it would take to accomplish a certain task --- when they say two, I make it 3, when they say ten, I make it 12, when they say one hundred, I make it 150.

So ... , in your case, read the text above again !
And please do not tell me that your are at *full efficiency* during *all your* very long work hours !

Two weeks a month, you are *out of office* !
While *out* no e-mail access ???
I told you, that you work for a lousy company !

Anybody else in your company who takes his work home ??
Have you talked to him/her ?
I used to take work home but it was more *brain storming*.
I get ideas on how to accomplish something when I am just about to go to sleep.

If you think *you* are not the problem, then find another job !

<<<my housekeeper has left dinner>>>
You can not take care of yourself ??

<<<I still have a few hours before going to bed to answer emails and get things done.>>>
Done ??? As in totally finished ?
What do you do the next day ? Wait for work to *arrive* at your desk ?

WHoaaaa ... wait ! I know what your are doing !!
<<<I can't resist checking my phone and my email box>>>
Are you one of those of *modern day* phone junkies ?
Walking around all day WITH their stupid phone in their hands,
looking at it ALL the time, not noticing anything outside your realm ?

How about doing some *REAL* work, and throw your dang phone in the trash !!

In the end, you did post this *cry for help*, in the *Relations* section. So it is not the job that is at fault, but the incapability YOU have with *other people* !!

If I am right, then I can not help you, since I do not claim to be a shrink !!!
You better find a *professional* one FAST !!!

This I can tell you.
You will never have a Family, you will never have REAL friends, you will ALWAYS be unhappy.
NOT a good way to continue in life !

Pinch yourself real hard !!
Does it hurt ??? Ifnot, maybe your alter ego is asking for help !

If you really want a better social life, you have to work at it or find work to fit around you. No other way around it.

I have a bad social life as well, but I'm happy where I am. Frankly I don't miss the endless hours at the bar or late night poker. Apart from some childhood and college friends, no one is close to me at work or anywhere else. That's life. People change and so do their priorities. If you are looking for a relationship, they need to be very understanding of your lifestyle. Its 100% okay to be focused on work, just have an exit plan because your body won't keep up with the work load you have.

I think you can make time to attend meet ups and other activities where you can make new friends. You can also read, etc but definitely develop other interests outside of work. All work and no play....Also no one ever asks for their bank balance on their deathbed. You reap what you sow, so get sowing!

I sense that you are not entirely happy with it, which is why you are asking.

Honestly? I don't think it's healthy, even if it makes someone happy. Plenty of things make me happy--music, friends, wine, long walks--that doesn't mean I should spend all my time with them. I see working all the time as just a socially acceptable form of addiction.
