Hi I recently turned 18 and I've started going out to nightclubs with my friends. There's another group of people at my college who have been clubbing for about a year, and they're considered the cool crowd, which my friends and I aren't quite a part of although we mingle with them on occasion. My group and I have been out a few times now, and a couple of times we've bumped into the cool crowd. When I first walked into a club I found it very exciting, all those lights, girls with short skirts, loud music and so on. We've chatted with a few girls and it's been fun so far.
Last saturday I was talking with one of the guys from the cool crowd, and he said to me it's good that you lot have finally come out and you're talking to girls now but watch out for red flags. I asked him what he meant and he just smiled and said you'll find out.
I know what a red flag means but I'd like to know what kinds of red flags I should be looking out for.
FWIW, stop thinking about life in terms of the "cool kids" vs. the uncool kids. And make sure you go to other places BESIDES da club, just to balance it out.
You seem so earnest and naive. At your age it's hard to tell how people will turn out, but I recommend avoiding heavy drinkers and drug users. Most inexperienced people will overindulge, but those who make it a habit may develop a problem.
Buy condoms and carry them with you. You need at least three in your wallet at all times. Don't do IV drugs or anything addictive. Party in moderation. Choose women who seem smart and careful. Wild and impulsive usually means trouble. Don't date crazy.
If you start talking to a girl and she says words to the effect of "well, aren't you going to buy me a drink?" walk away. You owe her nothing, and she has no right to demand treats and gifts just because she has a erm...pretty face.
That's just one red flag. There are many more. And not just in the clubs. I hope that helps.
