Thats a SAD, sad thing to carry with you your whole life.
Imagine the conversation you have to have with any and ALL future lovers. Just how do you break that to someone?

That's a sad conversation to have, and I imagine that those who have to have it are terrified. What's so sad about herpes, is that people look up pictures on the internet and think that it's an accurate description of what herpes actually looks like. Unfortunately, herpes looks different on everybody. 80% of people with herpes don't know they have it and what's worse, when you go to the doctor to get tested, 90% of the time herpes is not included so that's why people don't know they have it. Usually, they think it's just jock itch or shaving bumps. In reality, the statistics are 1 in 4 women and 1 in 5 men (it's easier for women to catch).
The good news for your neice is that she can have a child vaginally. Many women with herpes do. The REAL trouble with herpes comes when a women contracts it WHILE pregnant. If a woman gets it then, she doesn't have enough antibodies in her body to fight it and the baby will more often than not be affected. The effects can range anywhere to the baby being born with an outbreak, brain damage and death. However, if she has the virus at least 3 months prior to getting pregnant she SHOULD be fine. Most women go on Valtrex in the last trimester to prevent outbreaks. If there's no sign of an outbreak at delivery she can do so vaginally. If there is, then she would need the C- section. However, having herpes doesn't mean you HAVE to have a c-section. Most just opt for one, just in case. I've heard stories of babies being born with the virus and to be honest I don't blame them. But I also know of people who have the virus and delivered vaginally and the baby is fine. Really, she just needs to have a good doctor who knows what they're doing.
