He came because his buddies where going to a party. He went for majority because of his friends.
He "avoided" you because it was probably awkward for him to deal with you after months of no contact.

I wouldn't read too much in to it.

He has already shown you how much personal contact he desires from you before the whole party situation came up.

Ask yourself why YOU bothered to invite someone who wanted nothing to do with you in the first place...
