So I feel like a complete dork for asking on here but. So im 37 single all my life, never really dated. Their is this new girl at work, she is security officer and I do IT stuff. We don't get to talk often but once in awhile. mostly when she needs something or I need to let her know whats going on. She is friendly and cute. I thought she was married so I kept my distance, today she told me she was recently divorced. Id like to be friends with her though. being very shy to ask some one to be friends seems akward to me. Im not even sure if she wants to be friends or just friendly at work kind of thing. she isn't super outgoing herself but is easy to talk too. Can the city data people help a guy out here? I don't want to scare her off and then feel like an idiot.

Since this is a workplace thing I would be really careful. You don't want to get fired or sued.

I have dated coworkers but as a guy you gotta watch out more.

I would only pursue her if SHE makes the first step.

Just get to know her better over time by talking to her. You don't ask someone to be friends.

I would also say to be very careful about getting involved with someone at work. You need some pretty high-level social skills to do that and ensure that things don't blow up in your face. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you have those social skills.

well fortunately she and I don't work for the same company. she is contract security guard and I am contract IT person there.Yea I think its weird to ask some one to be ur friend. I was thinking maybe asking her if she wanted to hang out after work. I really have no interest in being her boyfriend any time soon. She has 3 teenage children and im just not wanting to be involved with anyones kids right now.

Don't date coworkers. Contract, 1099, or permanent.

Okay, so maybe ask her to join you for a cup of coffee after work. There shouldn't be a lot of pressure because you have indicated you are not looking for a girlfriend.

Right?

I don't deny my social skills aren't very good. Your not insulting me at all. She is just easy to talk to is why I interact with her well.

I like her because she is friendly and easy to talk to. Im one of those people who have few really good friends and no just so so friends. Being in a relationship she would have to make that move because im not always the easiest to deal with.

Are you sure?? I mean, what do you want?

You said she was cute, and you wondered if she was married. That indicates romantic interest.

Do you plan to hang around as her friend until her teen kids grow up and move out?
