These unique dynamics, such as child/ren from a previous relationship or mental illness, doesn't, shouldn't, imply these individuals are in need of rescuing, especially when the parties involved are in stable and supportive environments.

Divorced counts as single mother doesn't it? My mother didn't want to be rescued. She felt the men who dated her wanted to be rescued. Wanted her to be housewife and mother to their kids. She had a career and was not auditioning for that role.
