I don't care for the term cougar. And I feel that being a cougar is more about older women that go to the bars to pick up younger men to have casual encounters with. But if an older woman is having a serious long term relationship with a younger man, then the term cougar should not apply to that.

I don't consider myself a cougar. I feel the term applies more to the singles scene at clubs and bars, and to casual short term encounters. But if an older woman is in a serious longterm with a younger man like Demi Moore is with Ashton Kutcher, then I wouldn't consider her a cougar.

I laughed at this. Cougars, lol.
What are older men who go after younger women called? Jaguars?

At my age (49) I no longer consider dating men older than myself for a long term relationship. Not unless he is an extraordinarily healthy person. Same age or younger is fine. One of my grandmothers had a husband who was about 15 years older than she was. Towards the end, I could see that the strain of his aging taking a huge toll on her. During the last five years of his life, she had to really hold back on the activities that she wanted to do. Women tend age better than men. On average, we live seven years longer than they do.

Will you become a couger?

Men, have you been, or are you in a relationship with a cougar?
Funny thread but I'll have to answer. I guess you can say that my first wife was a cougar. When we met, I was 20 and she was 30 and twice divorced. She was a hostess at this fancy restaraunt in West LA and my buddies who used to go there told me about this "smoking hot Asian girl" who worked there. I went a couple of times, flirted a bit, we started dating then by the time I was 23-24 we got married. I still think she's one of the most beautiful women walking the planet even though she's old now.

Correction: She's beautiful even though she's older, she's not old. She's in her 40s.

I don't like the term 'cougar' either, because it infers something predatory and is thus derogative - i.e. a major put down.

It's sort of sad that the moment women discover it's okay to date younger men, someone finds another way to make it sound ugly.
