Ok, I'm a 48 yr old disabled Navy Veteran who is wheelchair bound. I can still move my legs somewhat and everything works, I just cannot stand or walk. Yet whenever I try to ask a woman out for a date or even just dinner, I am shot down or even told " What do I want with half a man?". I don't think I'm that bad looking, before I was disabled I never had a problem getting a date and more! So what's up ladies, isn't a man in a wheelchair worth dating? I'm very outgoing and self sufficient, so what's up?
That's just it, I don't need nor do I ask for help or pity, just friendship, respect, companionship and yes love if it comes to that. Is this too much to ask? After all, I'm still human with all that this entails.

Big welcome to the forum mate and a pleasure to have a veteran aboard
I'm sorry to hear of this and I think many people don't really understand the ins and outs in what being in a wheelchair is and think that you're a lot less capable than you actually are
I use my wheelchair as a catch all excuse to avoid dating and keep my life as simple as possible. That won't work for those who enjoy playing the game, though, and anyone who would refer to or treat you as' half a man' is inexcusably rude.

You appear to have a great attitude about it, which is a huge head start, but just as you hope potential dates would understand your desire for independence, you must understand that they may have many misconceptions and unfamiliarity with your lifestyle and all that it entails. Just as you would expect patience, tolerance and understanding, you have to be willing to give that as well.
I think this blog has a lot of great advice and ideas for you, and even some disabled dating websites:
I still rock climb; scuba dive, race cars etc. I need someone who wants to go, and not in slow-mo either.
Sounds like a great line for an online dating profile ....
