Do you see a man who has a cat or cats as pets differently? Does his choice stand out to you? Does it turn you off? Do you think it is indicative of certain personality traits?
Does it affect whether you want to date him or not, or affect your thoughts about his potential?

I find that I prefer guys with cats. I am deathly allergic to both dogs and cats so any pet is kind of an abstract idea but if a guy is very pro dog and anti cat, we tend not to get along as well. No idea why. My ideal is a guy with no pets of any kind. I don't like the excuse "oh, we have to be done by X time to walk my dog, and then we can go out after." You don't get that with a cat.
To me, liking cats indicates that a person is flexible and tolerant and not super controlling, all good qualities in a guy you might want to date.
I once read a book by a woman who did consulting. After she got to the point in her career where she could pick and choose her clients, she starting taking her cat in to her office with her, and she would decline to take on as a client anyone who said they hated cats (not if they were allergic, just if they personally couldn't stand them) because she tended not to work well with controlling and inflexible clients, and intolerance for her cat weeded those out for her.

Where's Altguy39? He and I just had a discussion about this the other day .
The answer is: no.
A man is no less "manly," (whatever that means), for having a cat, a bird, a fish, or some animal that isn't a dog.
My goodness...is this something people really sit and mull over?

I'm a man. I'm straight, a combat veteran and a former cop. I also have a cat who is significantly Bengal and is smart, adventuresome, curious, vocal and very affectionate. My wife loved him as do I and now that she's recently (six weeks) passed he's still in mourning. Love me, love my cat! Want to make something of it?
