Been dating this great girl for the last 3 months, things have been fantastic. I am 50, she is 47. Well, she was away for the week and I had too many drinks one night and hooked up with an ex girlfriend and my current one found out. It was a stupid mistake and I am ashamed of what I did, but as a result this girl has said its over and will be by to pick up her stuff when she gets back from her trip this weekend.

I really do care about, have sent her a few texts which she hasn't responded to. Any suggestions?

Ya, blaming your behavior on drinking is problematic. Perhaps you should stop drinking? Other than that, you've more than likely burned the bridge that was this short 3 month relationship. I suggest you move on and stop texting her unless it's in regards to her collecting her belongings.

Yes, leave her alone. You've proven yourself already.
Learn a lesson from this....

Do you have “too many” drinks every Friday?

I feel like an idiot, 50 years old and have never cheated on anyone until this.

Don't blame the alcohol for your indiscretion, alcohol can lead to poor judgement but it doesn't cause you to forget you are in a relationship. Are you only ashamed because you got caught? Your gf was away for one week and you couldn't keep your pickle in your pants? how is she supposed to trust you again? the fact that she had to find out via your obviously vindictive ex is embarrassment enough, learn from this and leave this woman alone.
