You and him ARE boyfriend and girlfriend except not in "name". He must have issues. You say he has said he has never had a girlfriend, he has,he has had other similar relationships I am sure of it. He obviously gets around.

Either accept what you have or leave and give nothing to him for a good 6 months. No sex, no overnights, no contact if possible. He may realize he is "in love" too after a good, long absence. After that, you will have found your own head and space again and be ready to move on in case he has flaked out and gone with a plan B girl.

I am just amazed at how the younger generation has such a problem committing to any long term relationship. Of course the MGTOW movement has a lot to do with it, and this sounds like one example.

Hahahahahaha that's not true at all. Nice try, though.

Many in this generation believe there are endless choices in life. And in many cases there are. Some can get analysis paralysis.

They also tend to be less trustful/more skeptical than before, based on their experience online, which leads to the belief they are connected that doesn't always play out in reality. They also are the children of baby boomers, which had the highest divorce rates.
