when you meet someone from an online dating site for the first time where do you guys usually take her? An expensive upscale French restaurant or Starbucks?

As a female, I prefer to meet for lunch during the week. This way, you know that lunch is going to end in an hour. If you find you really don't have much in common with your date, you know it will end soon. If you do "click," then you can always go out for dinner later.

I think you should go to a coffee shop and just talk and see if this is worth spending more time getting to know the other person. A place where you both can be comfortable, time to talk and can linger if you want to....

Personally, when I was single, a lunch date or even a Starbucks date is perfect. I'd say most of the time it was at a coffee shop-type place.

You'll be surprised...a lot of women here in Los Angeles scoff if you take them to Starbucks for a date.

Wow! really? Maybe it's time you move then LOL Maybe they think that it's low class to do such a thing but I personally prefer it. I think why put so much planning and money into a first date? Best thing to do is to meet somewhere to talk to see if it's even worth pursuing, ya know? I guess I'd make a terrible single guy LOL

Then, don't call it a 'date.'

meet them where there are a lot of people and plenty of escape routes so if they turn out to be someone completely different you can get away
