I like this thread and agree that we all self medicate in some manner. I personally have a few things I like doing and in no particular order but always first is to ride my horses. Not only does it relax me, make me instantly happy, helps me forget any worries I have but overall, it forces me to not sweat the small stuff.
Of other interests / self medication - I ride bike, take a walk, take a drive or listen to music really loudly LOL
Related, I think a lot of folks also (maybe not so much the younger ones.. but ) I think that people my age and older often "reflect". When I do, I like listening to music that has some kind of memory associated with it, I'll have a glass of wine, and just sit and think.
We as humans are pretty interesting.
Thats exactly what I was thinking as I've read through this, very interesting.
I usually hit softballs off the tee. Crazy I know, but it tends to work out my frustrations, and sometimes i think better with a bat in my hand. ( I dont know if that's a good thing, though).
Sleep has always been my self-medication. I sleep when I'm upset, lonely, angry, bored, scared, anxious, and feeling any other negative emotion. A two or three hour nap helps me "escape" and it's also something to do.
Tai Chi / Kung Fu
Workout (run, lift weights, etc.)
Take Macro photos out in the yard of bugs. The hunt for bugs is fun.
Take the MacBook Pro to Starbucks, order a Mocha and do some work

I don't know how you self medicate by sleeping. Usually if I need to self medicate I'm so stressed out I have a hard time turning my mind off to be able to go to sleep.
2. Fly a Cessna along the coast.
3. Do some asanas- hold sirshansana if it's been a real hectic day.
4. Slowly sip a giant glass of PreVail while watching the sunset over the bay.
5. Spend hours I don't have reading these threads...
I think everyone self medicates in one way or another, not always drugs or booze although I think if I had a mindless job I would welcome someone walking the room and handing out shooters of something and my daily meds.
Nothing alters my mood more than music and If I reach a wall on something I can't figure out I put on a CD or just let SIRIUS pick songs for me. Maybe being on CD is even a form of self medication.
Aspirin and caffiene are my drugs of choice. Music works too when I have the time to just listen. Too often, anymore, it's just background noise. As a teen, I used to love to just put on headphones and lie down and listen to music.
