Sounds crazy I know, and probably is...
I hardly think I'm incapable of making good decisions as I've been married 23 years to the greatest woman alive. Raised 2 kids that are "normal" without piercings and irrational behaviors due to good old fashioned dicipline and values.
I'm a 48 yr. old male with a good strong work ethic, and a good provider. I just recently lost my 75 yr. old uncle who was my personal mentor for difficult decisions and financial insight I would need from time to time, given I never had the opportunity to have my own parents share their wisdom due to untimely losses of both.
I'm facing a couple of really difficult decisions (to me anyways,) in terms of career and finance, and ol' Uncle Bill ain't around anymore. I'm sitting here searching the net for some sort of direction for finding a "surrogate Dad", if that makes sense. There is a great volunteer organization called SCORE that enlists a group of retired business owners and sucessful people that help people get started in business, and help plan their strategy to be sucessful, all for free. I just don't see them offering free counseling on my level.
That's sort of what I'm searching for in a round-a-bout way I guess...only in "retired father form", if that makes sense. In other words, I'm an adult that's looking for a sincere and wise individual(s) with good, strong decision making qualities and a background in financial issues that could kind of help me make a couple of good, solid choices pertaining to the forementioned topics.
There are financial planners that for a fee will be glad to help, but I'm not looking to throw money away and be just as confused as I started. I want to be able to discuss this situation in detail with someone willing to listen dilligently to me and my wife, lend as much time as he can, and hopefully give the proper advice.
May sound crazy as I said before, but I gotta tell you, as the old saying goes, "you never know what you had till it's gone..."
Anyone have any ideas as to where I might look?
Thanks.
