Right, Huck, I wish I had a dollar for every guy that's told me he "digs Asian chicks" (verbatim).
Also, I was at 24 Hour Fitness and was working out next to an Iranian guy and he told me their women like "your type" (non middle-Eastern white, I guess).
In the end, I think the person whose background is most similar to yours is probably better. People find this out after making "messes" of things.

The most important things are common sense, patience, commitment and most important of all, drama-free. The tendency to create drama out of nothing cut across cultural and ethical lines. If you had some problem with me, just tell me, I'm sure we can work something out. Don't expect me to get your "hints" and don't think I can read your mind. Right now, her boobs and ass might be the only thing you care about. But I can bet 10 years into your marriage, a woman who can give you reason and peace will trump any babe in her attractiveness.
