I text when I have something small to convey. Or if I don't want to be intrusive. But I only do when I'm alone, not when I'm out with other people. I have a friend who texts all the time... it gets pretty annoying. She has 2-3 conversations going on all the time, one with the person with her and the others by texting. I hate it, I should tell her about it sometime
My boyfriend and I both got texting phones in January. We text when we can't call or when we're in a crowded room and don't want our conversations heard.
I know my friends with teenagers and young adults jumped on this bandwagon earlier. When we had our regular cellphones with hardly any texting capabilities I would receive these long messages that were hard to respond to on a tiny keyboard.
Well, if I thought it was excessive, then yeah, that means it probably would get on my nerves. But no one in my immediate family does that. My fairly-new SO has just really started using it, with me. It's handy for us to communicate with each other.
I walked by an entire family at a table in a restaurant last night, and every single one of them (mother, father, and kids) had a cell phone in their hand in front of them, and they were typing away on the keypads. My guess is none of these people actually talk to each other, so why go out to dinner with each other?
When I was a server at a restaurant, we'd see families texting instead of paying attention to each other. We'd also see couples on dates but 1 or both would text at the table. I don't understand that level of rudeness.
On another note: my first husband used to text a lot but my issue wasn't the texting in and of itself. My issue was that the bum was constantly sending and receiving texts from his ex-girlfriend. That was my problem with it. But that's another story.

A few times I have been out with my family in a restaurant and one of us says, "Hey, let's go to a movie tonight!"
Then we all get out our phones and look at Fandango/IMDB to decide what we want to see.
Sometimes, it's "Oh hey, that BBQ festival is today!" and we all Google it.
How do people even find 7 year old threads to bring back to life? Just curious. This was started in 2009.
