The other problem I had with a college town was, even if I did get to know people, I'd need a whole new set of friends in a few years. Where I was, once people graduated, they left for jobs in Richmond, DC, and Charlotte. No one stuck around. So anyone you meet is gone in 1 to 4 years. Then there's the age thing. At 23, hanging out with college kids may not seem bad. At 26 plus, its not so great.
And that's the problem, as I see it. At some point, you will outgrow the college town. The people you know will leave, and the only people left to get to know is a new crop of too-young college kids. I found when I moved back that I had already outgrown it.
Thanks a lot for your good advice. Here I would like to ask for some of your ideas of how to target to meet a particular kind of person.
This is what I would like to try to give it a shot: I know that some of the most mature, loving and intelligent people were committed or married in the middle of their college years. While I was in college, I didn't have the good sense to tell a good one from a bad one. Now that I can tell, I would like to go find the good ones before they are gone. ( The really good ones tend to be gone early)
Any ideas of how can I go about more focusedly meeting those few really good ones? I need some more effective plan than just meeting whoever.
You know the kind---the ones that are really emotionally healthy and ready to love, they don't usually stay single very long. They tend to be nice and good-looking and smart as well.
I have a similar problem except i'm in my early 50's. I find people my age to be very closed, stiff and disinterested. I tend to identify with people younger than myself, there's more energy. I like more current music etc. I'm a good friend to have, I would do anything to help someone out. I should note that we moved here 4 years ago and to date I don't know single person, it's painful. I'm not a real outgoing person until the connection is made. Ideas?...............thanks.

You would probably get better responses if you started your own thread. Try volunteering to meet people of all ages. You will have to go outside of your comfort zone some in order to meet new people.
