Marital troubles are hard on everyone involved, but new research suggests that for the unhappy hubbies, a bad marriage can kill.
In an analysis of more than 10,000 middle-aged men, researchers found that those who reported that they were dissatisfied with their marriage had a 64 percent higher risk of dying from stroke than happily wed men.

I happened to read that same news report and it doesn't surprise me at all. Stress can kill you, plain and simple. Certain occupations that are highly stressful also have a higher incidence of strokes and heart attacks. Of course the way in which one deals with stress is also a factor, particularly when someone feels overwhelmed by it and doesn't really know how to address the problem.

Both mothers and fathers should be dropping like flies!
ah stats i love them, let me get posting.
here--- i found the article, but guess what--- 96% of men that are married are happy.
does not sound much like my usual post about marriage. if guys are so miserable married
they sure are not saying so in the survey.
time to rethink my opinion of successful marriage. i have been talking to the other 50%, the ones that were not successful.

Yeah, you're right, I think the only reason that they aren't is because parents of young children are usually fairly young themselves and haven't gotten into the higher risk years. I suspect that this is a cumulative things that builds up for many years and usually strikes people who are maybe in their 50's or older but of course I'm no medical expert, it just seems likely.

Males are smart enough not to jump on/marry the first prospective spouse that comes along. Usually, it's a kicking, screaming, and dragging down the aisle kind of thing.
Women tend to hop on marriage without thinking through the pros and cons, and their true wants & needs. And also whether that "chosen one" can actually meet the most important core ones. They marry "Mr. Wrong" instead, and end up incredibly unhappy and unfulfilled.
It makes perfect sense. Stress undermines emotional, and thus physical, wellbeing.
