“God is good all the time. “

Whenever I see this I think of :
'It came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the LORD killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of beast.

I just cant see why god would not just twist Pharaohs arm until he let the Hebrews go.
Even killing pharaohs child was an absurd thing to do when the Pharaoh was the problem.

I know there are some who believe in god that do not believe he is good all the time.
I’m just amazed at the ones that do…

What is really strange is that there are some people who are very bright and rational except for when it comes to their God and the Bible........Torah, Quran etc.

How anybody can gloss over the atrocities that God committed in the Old Testament is mind boggling.

Any sane person would say this is a statement that goes without saying, but apparently not the theists.

Can someone explain how the Plagues of Egypt, as described in the Bible, differ from terrorism?

I'm stupefied when people try to use the bible, the quran, or the OT as moral guides..

Well atheists tend to say Moses and the Plagues of Egypt never even happened, but putting that to one side.

In primitive/simple societies things often revolve around authority, loyalty, and purity. Things that we would deem harsh were necessary because society was not ready for more complex things. And also the Old Testament is largely about the survival and journey of the Jewish people.

I admit when I saw the title I had the brief hope this would be about infanticide or child sacrifice among pagan peoples or abortion, but I knew it was more likely this would be another "How can you stupid people believe the Bible" rant.

The obvious answer is that God did not do this,or tell the Jews to kill people. The Jews used God's name to attempt to put divine favor on themselves as a nation.

Surely people who don't believe in a god don't believe that God actually did these things?

Of course not--there is no evidence they were ever in Egypt, even.

The point is, you people who believe in the Bible believe that it happened, and that it was done by the entity or person that, according to you, sets the standard for all morality.

If you think someone who would do this is the standard for morality, what does it say about you?

Not "How can you stupid people believe the Bible"
But how can you believe your god is good all the time?

Drop your emotions and
question your beliefs.

Megalomaniacs believe they are above morals after all, they're megalomaniacs.

But the really sick part is that all these 'believers' read that in their book, and than chant "praise the lord", they actually worship a god that would kill all of the first born as a punishment for some trivial offense. Talk about mind control!

Are you referring to me,even after I made it plain I did not believe that God killed the Egyptians or told the Jews to kill?Strange,I thought I posted my thoughts fairly lucidly.
