God did not create the universe, world-famous physicist Stephen Hawking argues in a new book that aims to banish a divine creator from physics.
Hawking says in his book "The Grand Design" that, given the existence of gravity, "the universe can and will create itself from nothing," according to an excerpt published Thursday in The Times of London.
"Spontaneous creation is the reason why there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," he writes in the excerpt.

Not to degrade Mr. Hawking in the least, but he may have theories on how the Universe began, but he doesn't know beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Remember, Professor Hawking has been proven wrong before on black hole phenomena.

I believe in evolution, I believe that there was a big bang, I believe in science thats peer reviewed and studied and can be verified. However, science doesn't have an explanation for everything.

Everyone has their own belief system, none can be proven.

Gravity is a phenomena by which mass warps the field of space time, influencing other objects around it of less or greater mass.

It wasn't created anymore than the wind was created.

Simply the workings of the universe we live in. That doesn't mean there wasn't an intelligence in the creation of the universe, but it doesn't mean that there was one either.

People have beliefs, the truth is found by mucking about to see if they are true.

For thousands of years people stated that birds could fly because god let them, people got sick because god wanted them to, and volcano's were gods wrath till some smart monkey disagreed and proved the position. "God did it" is not really an explanation of anything, since people can't ask god, it's an excuse that people don't know.

This is a question that may not be solved, or it might be...people will never know if they force anyone who asks the question to stop because it hurts their little sense of faith.
