You do realize this is an old thread?...The OP's last >>> Last Activity: 03-12-2010 11:28 PM, 7 years ago...
Better to talk about old subjects than not talk at all Richard...and re-opening old threads is encouraged here. If you go to the ancient threads here, it actually tells you to resurrect the thread by adding a new post. At the end of all ancient threads it says.....
Please update this thread with any new information or opinions. This open thread is still read by thousands of people so we encourage all additional points of view.
A continuation from my previous post.
It's pretty obvious "Christians" do not read the bible.
Old Testament:
Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
New Testament:
Luke 14:26
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

Stark contrast, wouldn't you say?...To look at it in different way, what if it meant to honor Father (G-d) and Mother (Earth)?...

It could also mean both... honor God, nature, and the father and mother that actually have to raise you since the "heavenly" "father" and "nature-wide" "mother" are monsters by comparison. Gotta honor the monsters you fear and are bigger than you, though. Might makes Right and all that... well according to some.
Of course, Luke 14:26 as a phrase, is merely the writing down of a concept that is almost instinctually known by basically every counter-culture cult that springs up anywhere since the dawn of time. Sadly, a successful cult leader must die before they do awful stuff to their followers (Power corrupts) so that the cultish religion can be more malleable and thus survive into the future with cultural hypocrisy and cherry-picking and interpretive gymnastics (for the ones based on canonical stories or sets of rules).

The Buddha says honor them by teaching them to become better people and not letting yourself be abused but work with a lot of patience, perseverance, and wisdom. If you find, in true wisdom of yourself, that there is no possible betterment for them then let them live as they decide, but check often on them in true honor just as you would check on the prisoners of crimes, if you were true to being the best of the best. (Plus, there is the added biological/emotional attachment that would make it easier).
There is no need to break any good thing. By leaving them to themselves if they can't be taught, you honor them. By skillfully teaching them when they need to learn, you honor them. Buddhism describes what is a father and what is a mother, and these people are not being that. Forgive them, and depart from what is not good, but even process in a bad situation is good, even an up-hill climb towards Utopia after a descent is good.
But an ancient jewish god is deluded, vague, and jealous, its mouth is ink and lies, half-truths and incomplete thoughts.
At least that is what it would seem, if you have to contradict its supposed direct dictations.
"Honor your father and your mother so your days can be long" does not say, "unless you think they are bad."
Simple an example of one of the truths, that makes the whole thing a half (a half-truth that is, the worst and hardest of all lies).

It's interesting how people pick and choose what the bible says and what it doesn't. Most Christian like to "interpret the bible" to make it fit their agenda.
Christians for example says the Old Testament doesn't apply to them. It's an "old book". Yet they love the part about the "Gays being an abomination".
But they don't agree with the part about having to Marry your rapists or stoning your kids for disobeying.
What did the ancient caveman mean when he wrote "God". For all we know, it could have been Aliens who came from the sky down to earth. Wouldn't the ancient man think that something who came from the sky be a "God".

We're not talking about Buddha...
