IMO this is absolute nonsense. If Christ was a true teacher, and I believe he was, he would have been delighted to have a student/disciple reach his level or even surpass him.
I'm asking those of you who are bible experts to please bear with me on this. I'm not a bible expert so I don't know where it is written or what his exact words were ( does anyone really know his exact words? ) I remember reading somewhere that Christ made a statement saying essentially, that we could do even greater things than he did. Again, I'm thinking that any true teacher would want his or her students/disciples to reach his or her level and/or go beyond them. What is possibly to be gained by holding oneself above everyone else? Somehow I cannot imagine that Jesus Christ would have such an egotistical attitude. Let us leave such childish beliefs to our political leaders.
Jesus was/is God,not just a teacher, therefore we cant possibly do what he did, or be who he was. He didnt say.."you will be greater than me"...but instead greater things shall you do, 1. I cannot die for someones sin, be born of a virgin, (heal the sick, raise the dead,-if I prayed and this happened it still wuddint be ME--it would be him), anything I do is THRU Christ, I do to try to rise above him...that is what the Devil did, he wanted to BE him.
Then I say hat's off to the devil. The ultimate compliment to any teacher is to emulate the teacher. IMO it is utter nonsene to think for a moment that Christ would be offended in any way by anyone wanting to emulate him or BE him. Wanting to BE someone is the ultimate act of love.
That being said, I do appreciate your posting in this thread.

blessings....Franco
wanting to be LIKE Christ is different than wanting to BE Christ.
I already feel like a snowball in hell trying to make a point with you guys. You'll just keep spitting out biblical philosophy and religious dogma without offering any original thoughts of your own. I know you can do better!
It's not religious dogma. If someone who was both God and man lived without sinning...no man can live up to that level. Period.
If you are asking a Christian to pretend that Jesus was just a man then you are asking them to deny his diety.
Maybe you should address it to just the non-believers if you want to have people talk on a "what if" level, as in what if Jesus was just a person...then could man live up to the level of Jesus?
