You mean between a man and a woman? Or between two people of the same sex?

I'm pretty sure that's what happens to married couples after the honey moon stage is over.

Thats the thing Padgett2 - does Platonic love apply to relationships of opposite sex and same sex? when i went through the subject as Plato presents it - it seemed the term was meant exclusively for man and man relationship. What do you say? Heres anothere one - was Plato gay?

I think in today's society, Platonic love would apply to either. I have no idea what it would have been in Plato's time. And whether or not he was gay is not a question that keeps me awake at night.

Platonic love, by definition, is love without sexual desire. I believe that in Plato's time it was love between men but now has come to mean love between two people irregardless of gender.

As a lesbian, I can assure you that Platonic love and homosexual love are not the same thing. The love that I have for my partner is complete: mind, body, and soul and does have a sexual aspect as well, as does any happily married couple.

Platonic love would be the love that I have for my friends. I would put it #4 on my list of "loves"...God first, Michelle second, my family third, my friends fourth, all the rest of the people in the world who may someday be my friend but I just haven't met them yet fifth.

Default Platonic love

Nonsexual love.

The capacity to love intensely, nonethelesss. Just absent any sexual component.

Are you questioning if parents are able to love their children in a nonsexual way? Or are you suggesting that parents are unable to love their children?

Is a father who loves his son gay? Is a mother who loves her son a paedophile?

To continue the questions.....does the man who throws himself on a grenade to protect his buddies gay? Or does he love them?

Is a hungry man that shares his sandwich with his good co-worker, who has none, gay?

I am always astonished by the importance some people put on another's sexual orientation. It's right up there on the scale of importance with what color do you like, and where do you like to spend your vacations.
