It will be interesting to see how he tackles these issues and whether he is as forth coming in the future. All due credit to the man for his honesty though.
Pope Francis is reported to have acknowledged the existence of a "gay lobby" inside the Vatican.
He also said there was a "stream of corruption", according to reports in Catholic media.
He is said to have made the remarks during a private meeting with a group of Latin American Catholic clerics.
The clerics wrote up a report of the conversation that then appeared on the Chilean website Reflection and Liberation.
I wonder if gay "lobby" is an accurate assessment of the situation. I would be inclined to think that any such "network" of gay Vatican prelates would be more accurately characterized in spirit and action as a "cabal."
I cannot imagine that they are a lobby in our everyday sense of the world.
Unfortunately for those clergy with good hearts and dedication, the Catholic church is still firmly saddled with the oppressive burden of rule and mentality of a Renaissance monarchy, and all the vestigial trappings and pretensions that go with it. It is an anachronism that breeds conniving, secrecy and arrogance. The new Bishop of Rome may find that the his papacy is a poisoned chalice in more ways than one.
Am I reading between the lines correctly, that there are insinuations that Benedict was gay?
As a gay man, my gaydar always suggested that Benedict was closeted and celibate but definitely gay. I’m not a Catholic but I’ve known many gay priests and lay brothers—both active and celibate. It’s very common.

I read something similar. Basically said that was why he stepped down.
