In today's society only scientists are allowed to profess atheism. It's expected of them. Celebrities OTOH set an example for kids and young adults and parents don't want their kids running after atheists, believing it may lead them down a path to immoral behaviors. So celebrities are expected to profess belief in anything that smacks of theology, hence their profession of Scientology. Parents are too dumb to know the difference.
There are many more who are Catholic and Jewish, they just don't TALK ABOUT IT ALL THE DAMN TIME.
