Weak? More like non-existent. It is an argument born of desperation, an argument that attempts to counteract the numerous atrocities committed in the name of religion by assuming that non-Christian tyrants are automatically atheists.

As others pointed out, Hitler was most certainly NOT an atheist. He was a theist, more or less, with leanings toward Christianity. However Hitler believed in a higher power - to which he routinely gave his thanks whenever he survived an assassination attempt or combat on the front lines of WWI.

Stalin was clinically diagnosed as being paranoid. His atheism had little if anything to do with his social policies. He, like many autocrats, didn't like the fact that his people were serving two masters so God had to go. This wasn't necessarily an atheism issue but rather a paranoid man making sure that he alone commanded the loyalty of the Soviet people.

I see the point.
Has everyone come together to discuss the matter? If an elder feels deemed to make such a decision. Then there should be no shame in explaining themselves to their peers. As I suggested before the matter should be brought into the open. If this causes a problem, and results in strife. I would say the root is still pride.
I am saying it could be tough. But when you assemble the Holy Spirit is there.

This is complete speculation. Just gonna throw it out there. But I wonder if it has something to do with homosexuality.
