How's that amazing? It's only happened, say, a dozen times in history. There are currently over 30,000,000 Atheists, just in the USA. Without some study, that dozen could be nothing more than a coincidence. So, once again, I say, cite a source.
You don't think it's obvious, since the major totalitarian governments that have committed genocide in the past 100 years have been atheistic communist regimes? You need a source to recognize that Mao, Stalin, etc were evil?

Nope. You're the one that claimed the cause and effect. I admit that Mao & Stalin were evil tyrants. That's only 2 people out of the Billions that have walked the face of the earth. Where's the proof that Communism and Atheism were required to make them evil?
Do you think egotistical totalitarian jerk [ruler of N Korea] would be an egotistical totalitarian jerk if he were a Christian?
Lol! Do you think he would automatically be a saint? I have known plenty of egotistical totalitarian jerks who were Christians. Not that Christians have a lock on that personality type, but Christianity has no net influence against it, either.

Mensaguy what has this got to do with the topic, this has to do with separation of husband and wife within the realm of the church ?
Good point. Do you think, though, that he wouldn't oppress his people if he was a Christian?
Like I've said before - there has never ever ever been a benevolent religious dictatorship or theocratic government in the history of humanity. So yes, he would be just as oppressive.
And historical precedent shows that women have done FAR better in secular societies than ANY society where religion was at the fore.
Not really true in every case. Also it depends on how far in history you are going, and what religions you speak of.
I do agree though that many men have used(and still do) religion as a way to oppress women.

Hmmm..... What is obvious is that the story of Nicholas II (who was the head of his very Christian household and married to a woman who vowed to obey him and follow him wherever he went) isn't the only piece of history that you need to study. Want to catch up? Start with Armenia (look up "Death March" for a quick tutorial) and work your way through the alphabet. It's never to late to learn.
When you get to the "G's" you will, of course, find Germany. While reading about Germany there will be lengthy essays on Hitler, who was neither a communist nor an atheist, (but who was a totalitarian) and his place in the genocide of MILLIONS of people. (And since that happened in the past 100 years you won't have to go to some dusty research library and sneeze your way through the joy of learning.) Hitler was married as well. Though his marriage to Ava Braun, a woman who followed him for years, was short-lived. I have no idea if she promised to obey him when they took their vows.

I think the whole Hitler and Stalin were atheists so therefore atheism causes people to do evil things argument is pretty weak. How many times have men used religion as an excuse to commit evil acts? You can't blame atheism for the evil that Stalin was guilty of, and I also do not believe one should blame religion. It is men who do these things. Of course if you insist on blaming atheism, then you also need to admit that religion is a far worse weapon of destruction.
ETA: Hitler's religious views are not all black and white. If you think that religion was not an influence, then you should read about his youth, and also how he used religion in certain ways while in power.

Why not?
